Washington is at the lower left and a wharf scene at the bottom right. The Eastern Bank of Alabama was incorporated on Feb. 8, 1858 and opened in 1859 at the corner of Broad and Randolph Streets. The bank was organized in 1857 and remained in business until closing its doors sometime around 1866-67. The bank was left holding the bag on both forced and voluntary holdings of state and Confederate securities that became worthless after the war. In the 1860s, the name was changed to John McNab Bank.
