Description: 1859-O NGC Shipwreck SS Republic Seated Liberty Half Dollar 50c US Coin In 1865 the sidewheel steamship SS Republic was on route to New Orleans with a treasure trove of gold and silver to help rebuild the war torn South after the Civil War. Tragically the ship was overcome by a hurricane off the coast of Georgia and sank to the bottom of the ocean where it rested untouched for 139 years until its discovery in 2004.
