McCrindle in 1959. McCrindle remained the general editor of this publication until 1977, when the magazine closed. Known for its vast mix of short stories and poetry by both new, young authors, and more prominent names as well as the feature of drawings, essays, and interviews. The present collection notably features the conclusion of Samuel Beckett How It Is in no. 13. Other notable contributions include John Fowles's poetry to no. 16; poetry by Anthony Burgess, Alan Sillitoe, Muriel Spark, and the story 'During the Jurassic' by John Updike to no. 21; 'The Hotel of the Idle Moon' by William Trevor to no. 23; Anthony Burgess' from "It is the miller's daughter" in 'Novel in progress section' of no. 24; poetry by Sylvia Plat to no. 31; a dialogue between Jack Kerouac and Neal Cassady to no. 33&34; Chines poetry by Mao Tse-tung and an interview by J. G. Ballard to no. 39; &c. Anthony Burgess contributed to numerous numbers. The magazine also held an annual Erotica competition, which was open to fiction, poetry and illustrations. Externally very smart, wraps lightly rubbed with general soiling, spine chipped particularly to no. 15 which presents minor loss. Faint stamp to front wrap no. 12. Ownership inscription in ink to front wrap no. 51. Internally, firmly bound to each volume except no. 15, which binding has failed with each leaf loose but present. Pages bright and clean. With illustrations in text.
