1969 Japanese "Playful Carp" Wood Sculpture Art Object signed by Nitten Artist

Description: Capture the beauty and grace of this stunning wood sculpture, crafted in 1969 by the renowned artist Tokuchi Fuzan. This remarkable piece showcases a skillfully carved carp, embodying the fluid curves of its body and the subtle angles of its fins, as if it were about to leap into motion. One of the most striking aspects of this artwork is the clever use of the natural grain of the wood, which brings out rich, almost lifelike, colors on the scales without any added pigments. Aptly titled "Playful Carp," the sculpture represents the serene and carefree swimming of the carp. The craftsmanship is so exquisite that you can almost feel the dynamic energy of the swimming carp, despite it being made from wood. Measuring approximately 37cm (dimensions: length 37cm × width 11.5cm × height 15.5cm), this larger-sized ornament commands a strong presence wherever it is displayed. On the belly of the carp, you'll find the signature "斧山" (Fuzan), proudly identifying this piece as a genuine work by Fuzan Tokuchi . 得地 斧山 (Fuzan Tokuchi )(born October 26, 1907) was a renowned sculptor who flourished during the Meiji and Showa periods In sculpture, he specialized in creating animals, deities, and divine figures like carp and Tenjin (god of scholarship and learning), earning high acclaim and receiving the Sixth Order of the Sacred Treasure. Born in Fukumitsu-cho, Nanto City, Toyama Prefecture, Tokuchi Fuzan learned sculpture from his father, Tokuchi Seiji, who was also a sculptor, from a young age. In 1913, he entered Tokyo School of Fine Arts (currently Tokyo University of the Arts) and studied under Shozo Nishikawa. After graduating in 1920, he continued his apprenticeship in his father's studio. In 1924, he participated in his first Nitten (Japan Fine Arts Exhibition), and from then on, he exhibited there every year. He became an associate member of the Nihon Bijutsuin (Japan Art Institute) in 1930 and a full member in 1936. Tokuchi Fuzan was a master artist who left a significant impact on the world of Japanese sculpture. His works captivate viewers with their dynamic and lively forms.Fast Shipping !!!
