Description: alexander caldertriple gong limited edition art poster print2021 Exhibition poster on high quality paper featuring Calder installing the Mobile "Triple Gong" 1951Measurements: 20" x 24" (50.8cm x 61cm)Alexander Calder invented an entirely new mode of art in the 1930's, the mobile - an innovative method of sculpting, bending, and twisting to create three-dimensional “drawings in space” that hang in perfect balanceThis limited-edition poster of Triple Gong, 1951, includes a photograph of Calder installing the work at the museum at the lower left corner.Never previously framed, in very good condition, has a very slight mark and minor handling, barely noticeable (see photos) about the artist: Alexander Calder; July 22, 1898 – November 11, 1976) was an American sculptor known both for his innovative mobiles (kinetic sculptures powered by motors or air currents) that embrace chance in their aesthetic, his static "stabiles", and his monumental public sculptures.[1] Calder preferred not to analyze his work, saying, "Theories may be all very well for the artist himself, but they shouldn't be broadcast to other people." In addition to sculptures, Calder painted throughout his career, beginning in the early 1920s. He picked up his study of printmaking in 1925, and continued to produce illustrations for books and journals. His projects from this period include pen-and-ink line drawings of animals for a 1931 publication of Aesop's fables. As Calder's sculpture moved into the realm of pure abstraction in the early 1930s, so did his prints. The thin lines used to define figures in the earlier prints and drawings began delineating groups of geometric shapes, often in motion. Calder also used prints for advocacy, as in poster prints from 1967 and 1969 protesting the Vietnam War. As Calder's professional reputation expanded in the late 1940s and 1950s, so did his production of prints. Masses of lithographs based on his gouache paintings were marketed, and deluxe editions of plays, poems, and short stories illustrated with fine art prints by Calder became available.
