Description: A marvelous antique treasure from the 1860's in the Civil War, this gorgeous doll is a 16" china head doll with the iconic flat top hairstyle.and cloth body. Her porcelain glazed head was exquisitely painted, from her thin brows, blue eyes, and rouged cheeks and delicate mouth.The porcelain hair is styled in the fashion of the period----a middle-part smoothed down flat with short ringlets framing all around the back. There are a few spots which are missing glaze and this is the original condition of the doll (see photos). The doll's body from the neck down is all cloth, including her mitten hands. There are some stains and noticeable stitching redone on the back of the cloth body due to its long age but there no open tears. She has her black socks sown to her feet to match the black ribbons of the Victorian dress she wears.The dress itself is reminiscent of its time's style, with its wide skirt's double lace hem, cuffs, and collar. The pattern itself is a floral chintz print and with a high button top that has a black silk ribbon to cinch the waist. The same black ribbon details decorate the wrists and collar. Under her gown she wears off-white bloomers and a chemise trimmed in lace and pin-tucks. This doll has been owned by the same family since it was new. It has been handed down over the years to the next generation. There is a gift tag showing that it was last given to Deeanna on Christmas of 1945 by her Aunt Georgia and originally belonged to her relative Lucy Zane. Lucy was born in 1861 and died in California in 1938. One hundred and fifty years of doll history in one family. These dolls come from the collection of my dear friend’s mother. She was an art historian by training and had a keen eye for beauty and quality. She collected many types of things----parts of her collections were featured in museum shows that traveled across America. She was a third generation Californian and some of her collection would have come from family. Her beautiful dolls were lovingly curated and cared for by her as a collection and are now ready to be passed on to others who will love them as much as she did.
