Antique Oil Painting Fishing Boats Off of Coastal Cliffs

Description: this is a beautiful antique oil painting depicting a mid-19th century ocean harbor area filled with various fishing vessels preparing to go to the open ocean to begin their daily fishing routine - we see small fishing vessels with only one mast as well as larger fishing vessels with two & even three masts sailing towards open ocean - on the right side of the painting are a series of high rocky cliffs at the end of which is a tall lighthouse - in the middle of the painting is a flock of seagulls flying through a pale blue sky interspersed with some white fluffy clouds - it is difficult to figure out about where this19th century scene took place as there are few clues to its exact location - it could very well be a mid-1800's painting of the Maine shoreline considering the rocky cliffs & lighthouse on the right side of the painting - all of the boats appear to be American Northeast in their structure but there are no flags flying on the boats to show that - when you reverse the painting & see the incredible amount of dark oxidation on the back of the hardwood frame & the wooden stretchers, it strongly suggests that this painting is c.1860's or so - dark oxidation of the reverse of the canvas is also evident - the painting measures 20" x 14" sight size, & is in good antique condition (there are a few small spots over the distant sailboat on the far left & a few small flakes on the hull of the sailboat in the rt. middle of the painting) - other than that, the painting is quite bright with a nice pale blue sky overhead - the painting is well-enhanced by its original gilded gesso on wood frame which is also in good antique condition with slight age separations at two corners & measures 26" x 20" -
