Earlier this year, I ran into my old friend Ashley at a local metal show. We chatted and caught up, and upon seeing several of her paintings on social media, I decided that I simply must commission a portrait of my favorite musician, Billy Strings. For reference, I chose a photo from a live performance in December of 2023, taken by the band's stellar photographer Jesse Faatz. While I was waiting for the piece to be finished, I learned that Ashley is the Great-granddaughter of the famed 20th-century painter and illustrator Maxfield Parrish, whose immense talent appears to have been passed down to a few of his descendants, Ashley included! Ashley is passionate about writing, and since her creative focus has been directed primarily towards prose, the opportunity to own a print from one of her original artworks is rare. This is especially true for pieces she's created using a medium such as colored pencils, as paints are her preferred media. Her watercolor portraits are magical, and I am hoping she will make one of Billy that I can add to my collection and possibly share with the world, so stay tuned!
