Description: Cem Sultan lithograph by Bernard-Romain Julien (1802-1871) printed by Lemercier Bernard et Cie, Paris (active 1837-1868). Cem (or Djem) Sultan was blocked from succeeding to the throne by his brother Bajazet, and spent most of his life in exile. In 1482 he travelled to Nice and later spent some time in France, as a well looked-after prisoner and a pawn in European-Ottoman relations. He died in Italy. He was an accomplished poet in Turkish and Persian. Frame is 25"x21"
