Text in English. 4 steel engraved plates (all heavily uniformly toned due to the paper used), well illustrated throughout text with small wood engravings. Lacks folding b&w map as typical. Nice series of illustrated ads for tourist hotels and steamboats. Scarce and very detailed pocket guidebook for travel within New England during the Civil War era and shortly after. Publisher's cloth binding, gilt title lettering, embossed ruled covers. Early gift "compliments of W. G. Baldwin". Book is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time. Item is not new or in "new" condition. Binding moderately age worn, small rear joint scuff abrasion, various signs of handling and interesting inoffensive old repairs along rear joint, front hinge cracked, but nothing offensive or severe, remains overall attractive as an object. Paper is gently toned, internally still well preserved, tight, sound. Still attractive on the shelf. Book displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws easy to overlook or forgive. Please review photos for more detail showing how this scarce little guide book survives. The asking price reflects the condition based on our examination and 40+ years full time exposure to antiquarian books and ephemera of all types.
