Description: This is a lock for a Pattern 1853 Enfield Rifle Musket with the marking "POTTS & HUNT, LONDON" on the lockplate. This item is an original piece manufactured in England for the Confederacy. This is a very clean lock without rust or corrosion. All parts show little to no wear and the lock works perfectly at half and full cock with a very smooth action. There is a very small crack in the hammer just below the hammer screw that does not photograph well and does not appear to go all the way thru the hammer. The hammer fits very tight on the stem and works perfectly. Perfect for collectors or enthusiasts of historical weaponry, this lock provides a tangible connection to the era of the Civil War and the weaponry used during that time.
