Educational The Very Hungry Caterpillar Math Money Game 2 Versions Laminated New

Description: This money game, with a "Very Hungry Caterpillar" theme, is adorable! It is brand new and in excellent condition! I laminated the materials for durability, and so that those that needed to be written on could be done so with a fine-tip dry erase marker and then wiped clean with a tissue or cloth, so they could be reused! This game is great, as it has 2 different versions. There is a money recognition version for preschool-1st grade and a money counting version for 1st-3rd grade! This set comes from a smoke free home. I received this set at an elementary school, Math inservice for teachers. It consists of a game board made of 2 pages that measure 8.5" x 11", 2 "Money Sorting Mats" that measure 8.5" x 5.25", 2 "Shopping Lists" that measure 5.125" x 8.25", 2 game instruction sheets that measure 3.75" x 8", 64 food pieces that measure 1.25"-3.5" in height and 1.375"-2.125" in width, 4 folded caterpillar playing pieces that measure 1.625" x 1.125, 12 laminated tiny dollar bills that measure .625" x 1.75", 34 pennies, 28 nickels, 32 dimes, 30 quarters, and a die. I added the money and die to the game, as originally there were none. I also added some labels, with more specific directions, to both of the instruction sheets. The game is for 2-4 players. Though this game has 4 markers, it only has 2 shopping lists and enough money to cover only 2 players in the "Money Recognition Edition". Copies of additional shopping lists would simply need to be made and extra play money added in order to accommodate 3-4 players. The game board is titled with "Hungry Caterpillars: Whose will eat the most?", with "Hungry Caterpillars in bold black letters. It has a path of multicolored, speckled circles. Some are plain, while others have images of colorful food with yellow price tags on them. The food images match those on the cards in this set. There are a couple of green leaves, in the place of circles, that say "Collect $1.00" in bold black text. In addition, a couple of the red, speckled spaces say "Roll Again" in white text. In the center of the board, across from the title, is a large green leaf. Next to it, is a smiling, dark and light green, striped caterpillar with a red head, curly antennas, blue oval eyes rimmed in yellow, and black legs. As the game board is in 2 pieces, it might be taped down on the table, so it doesn't move during play. There are 4 game markers (red, blue, purple, green). Each has an image of the caterpillar on the game board on one side. The markers have been folded in half, so they will stand up on the board. The cards have images of the following: green pears with brown stems, red strawberries with green tops and dark green stems, red apples with brown stems, triangle slices of red watermelon with green rinds and brown seeds, blue and yellow-swirled lollipops with brown sticks, blue plums with brown stems, yellow slices of swiss cheese with orange rinds, oranges with brown stems and green leaves, light green pickles, strawberry ice cream waffle cones that are coated in chocolate with a red stemmed cherry on top, slices of cherry pie that are stacked high with different colored cherries and have a dollop of whipped cream on the top covered with a red stemmed cherry, and chocolate cupcakes, in blue wrappers, with light brown frosting that has chocolate sprinkles and a red stemmed cherry on top. The "Money Sorting Mats" are titled in black bold print. They are set up with 5 columns. Each has a coin or bill at the top (front of a dollar bill, back of a quarter, back of a dime, back of a nickel, front of a penny). At the bottom of each column is the name of the money and its worth in bold black text. The "Shopping List - Money Recognition Edition" has a title in bold black text. Below that are directions. The list is set up in rows. Each row has a small empty box with an arrow pointing to the right. The arrow is pointing to an image of one of the foods on the cards. Each food has a yellow price tag. Next to the price tag is an image of the money that would be needed to purchase it. The "Money Recognition Edition" and "Counting Money Edition" cards have a title in bold black text. The instructions on the "Money Recognition" card are for children in preschool, kindergarten, or 1st grade who are working on recognizing different types of American currency. The instructions on the "Counting Money" card are for children in 1st-3rd grade who are working on counting American currency. To set up the "Money Recognition" game, each player gets a shopping list, a "Money Sorting Mat", and a fine-tip dry erase marker. On the instruction card is a list that designates how many of each bill/coin each player gets. Players put their money in the proper column on the mat. Players then select a caterpillar game piece. They can put it on any space to start, but they do not get to follow directions or buy anything, if they choose to begin on a space with a piece of food or printing. The food cards are put in 12 different piles, according to type, face-up, around the board. To play "Money Recognition", players roll the die and move clockwise around the board, buying food as they go, and referring to the shopping list, so they know what bills/coins they need. Players must pay with the money, shown on their chart, and purchase only one of the item they land on. Once an item has been purchased, the player makes a check mark in the box next to that piece of food. Then, they take a food card that represents what they bought, and place it in front of them. The first player to get all 12 food items to feed their caterpillar, wins the game! To set up the "Counting Money" game, each player gets a certain amount of bills/coins. On the instruction card is a list that designates how many of each bill/coin each player gets. As with the "Money Recognition" game, players then select a caterpillar game piece. They can put it on any space to start, but they do not get to follow directions or buy anything, if they choose to begin on a space with a piece of food or printing. The food cards are put in 12 different piles, according to type, face-up, around the board. In this version of the game, the shopping lists are not used, but 1st graders may still benefit from using the money sorting mats. To play "Counting Money", players roll the die and move clockwise around the board, buying food on spaces, rolling again, or getting more money ($1.00) on spaces they land on. Players do not have to purchase the food they land on and may not make any purchases when they are out of money. When players do purchase a food item, they take a food card that represents what they bought, and place it in front of them. The first player to get 10 food items to feed their caterpillar wins the game! This game would make a wonderful addition to a primary classroom to be used during Math Learning Centers! It would also be great to have in a household with young children! I am hoping to find it a good home.
