Description: GB. GV 1929. RARE! ERRORs! "1829" for "1929" & others on PUC 1d Scarlet. Fine mint pair. The errors are on the right stamp Listed flaw: the early stages of the “1829” instead of “1929” error.The first "9" of "1929" is printed to resemble an 8, making it appear as "1829". There appear to be various stages of 9 converting to 8 - without the closed loop on the 2 in 1929 being closed. The enlarged close up image shows clearly that the first loop of the "9" in "1929" is clearly closed. I recently saw a similar item (just the 1829 flaw without loop to 2) on the website of a prestigious former London Strand expert, who had it priced at £225 - for a fine used example! SG 235 and GB Specialised Catalogue Vol 2: NCom6f. ALSO 4 other varieties! The "8" of "1829" is joined to the "1". See close up image.The 2nd "N" of "penny" is joined to the frame above. See close up image.There are some white marks between the 2nd "N" and the "Y" of "penny". See close up image.Frame break in the top margin near top left corner. The stamps are superb fine mint - there is a hinge remnant on the reverse. Nicely centred with full perfs and no thins, tears or toning. A lovely example of the rare the "1829 for 1929" flaw as well as 4 other varieties! In a pair, so perfect for comparison! How unusual is this I wonder? Please refer to images.
