Description: This is a LOT of 7 Glasbake custard cups from c1940s, based on the logo/name. They are in excellent condition, though several of them have a slightly rough outer rim due to micro-flaking of the milk glass. Each measures approx 3 5/16 in across the top, and 1 ⅞ in tall. The McKee Glass Company of Jeannette, Pennsylvania, introduced Glasbak (no “e” yet) Ovenware in 1917. The product was created as a more affordable version of the record-breaking Pyrex brand. Glasbak’s promise of “Sanitary Baking Ware and Serving Ware Combined” caught the attention of homemakers nationwide. Because it was multi-purpose, the same ovenware dish could move from the oven to the table, to the fridge. While not as popular as Pyrex, Glasbak—renamed “Glasbake” later in the launch year— held its own in sales. The name was changed yet again in 1951 through 1961 to “Glasbake by McKee…”, and then finally to “Glasbake by Jeannette Glass”, from 1961 to 1983, when the company closed its doors.
