The post is 3/4 of the way up so that they 'sit just right' on your ears and will not droop for, opal is a lightweight gemstone and these weigh next to nothing even though they are substantial and extremely well made. As with very fine earrings, there is a left earring and a right earring... they mirror each other with a rich ocean blue and complimenting green fire. As you move the earrings back and forth, you'll see the fire within the opals move and shift, exactly the way you want your opals to perform. Most of our pictures were taken in direct sunlight (opals will appear darker in darker light as with any gemstone) and come from the Queensland Mine, right next to the Great Barrier Reef. Each opal measures in at 8mm by 6mm with the entire earring at 11mm by 9mm. The back is open to reveal the host rock of ironstone and the setting of 14k yellow gold beautifully compliments this particular shade of blue.
