Hechtia michoacana is a bromeliade in the Bromeliaceae family. Its native range is in Michoacán, Mexico. A relatively small and weak-looking bromeliad with a clusterin look. It was newly described in 2011 from thornscrub on dry, rocky slopes at low elevations in the Mexican state of Michoacán. They form rosettes that are long and narrow. The spiny leaves are grayish-green above and silvery below and can turn purplish-red in drought conditions. Hardy to drought conditions, Hechtia Michoacan is best grown on well-drained ground in dry tropical or warm temperate climates. It prefers to grow in dry sandy soils with minimal water needs. Zones 10-11 Germination Mix equal parts of potting soil, vermiculite, and peat moss. Press seeds down into the media. Spread some long-fibered sphagnum moss on top of the potting media. Mist with a spray bottle. Uncover and mist as needed to keep the media moist. Cover the seed tray with clear plastic to maintain a 64-75F. Place under a bright indirect light until germination.
