Description: For sale are two sheets from the P.F. Collier Book “The United States Navy From the Revolution to Date” Printed in 1917. The prints of the USS Arizona (Pgs. 139 & 141) as well of the USS Nevada (Pg 140). These images are 14” x 8 ¼”. The full sheets are 16.5”x12”. Commissioned in 1916 and serving in WWI, the Battleship Arizona BB39 remains in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, where it was sunk by Japan on December 7th 1941. These images show the Arizona when she was launched in 1915 and underway sometime between her commission in March of 1916 and when the image was published in 1917. These are early days for the Arizona showing her cage masts and mounted sponson guns. Commissioned in 1916, the Battleship Nevada BB36 served both in WWI and WWII it has an exceptional history. She was heavily damaged at Peral Harbor on December 7th. She was beached to prevent her sinking and blocking the harbor channel. Later she was repaired and returned to service. The Nevada supported D Day at Normandy and participated in the invasion of Southern France, Operation Dragoon. Then she was sent to the Pacific and participated in the bombardment at Iwo Jima and Okinawa. These are good quality images of historically significant warships.
