Description: Illinois 21J Illinois Watch Co. 12 size 21 jewel open face pendant-set pocket watch movement/dial/hands. Currently not running consistently under its own power so in need of some attention, but an interesting and rare movement for the Illinois collector that appears to be an undocumented variant of the A. Lincoln grade. Movement is listed in the factory records as from a small run of 30 A. Lincoln movements between serial numbers 2948471 and 2948500 but notably the movement is marked with only an Illinois factory signature and features its train jeweling bezel set directly into the bridges as opposed to the typical gold jewel settings seen among A. Lincoln production in this model. Movement also features a wide striped nickel damaskeen as opposed to the usual narrow stripe pattern of A. Lincoln production in this model. Dial is double-sunk enamel and private label signed "The Cowell & Hubbard Co." which was a Cleveland, Ohio retailer and notably I've seen a very few Illinois Grade 409 movements with Cowell & Hubbard dials and similar movement jeweling indicating that these unusual movements were made at custom request for this firm. Movement serial number is 2948482. Fully wound and not running consistently under its own power - movement will tick briefly with a twist and occasionally will continue on for a bit longer period but it is stopping frequently and I think likely hasn't seen any type of servicing in many years. Nice looking movement overall cosmetically with a few typical surface marks. One case screw is missing. Dial has scattered outer chapter hairlines.
