Description: Antique French Gouache Painting, Seascape on the French Riviera, Cap d’Ail, Mediterranean Sea, Sailboat, Signed Jean Bompard This very charming antique French gouache on paper depicts a Mediterranean seascape at Cap d’Ail between Nice and Monaco on the French Riviera. The back is marked “Pins maritimes. Matin au Cap d’Ail - Nice”. It is signed “J. Bompard”. Jean Bompard was a French painter active in Nice during the late 19th century and first third of the 20th century. He exhibited at the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Monaco in 1900 and was named Officier d’Instruction publique in 1923. He appears in art databases online and in the sold listings of various auction houses for his paintings of the region around Nice. Framed, matted and under glass, this gouache is in in very good condition with the exception of signs of age on the surface. The frame shows signs of wear including small chips on the surface and slight separation at the corners. Please refer to the detailed photos on this page.
