Description: Samuel Jessup was born in N.C. in 1877. After the death of his father, he moved to Patrick County, Virginia. He borrowed money to buy a tobacco farm. He also operated a small store with a Post Office attached. In 1904 he moved to Martinsville, Va. At this time the family was bottling soft drinks, the favorite being "Take-a-Cola. In 1908, he had the opportunity to purchase a Pepsi-Cola Bottling franchise. One of his earliest bottles is pictured on this bottle. He first started his bottling business at the corner of Fourth and Water Streets in Charlottesville, but soon outgrew that facility and moved to Millmont St. in 1963. Samuel's son became president of the company, but got to see the pictured and present new plant completed before his own death in 1984. Thank you Pepsi Virgina for this information.
