The business has been based in the Washington, D.C. area for many years. The art and collectibles that we are offering to eBay buyers are special and unique pieces that have been carefully “curated” by us. **** PLEASE NOTE --- This batik was photographed outside. There is interference in the photos from reflections and glare – since the batik is protected by acrylic. **** This stunning scene of lions in a landscape is an original batik. Two males, one female and two babies (five members of a lion pride) are in the foreground – in silhouette – moving to the right. The dramatic black silhouette scene includes a tree in the very center of the foreground. The background includes a snow capped mountain. The entire batik has a background of brilliant yellow and orange horizontal bands --- as though it is ablaze with heat / fire. This textile art is certainly a view of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. Kilimanjaro National Park is a destination for many. This original batik work of art is a wonderful memento for those who have been fortunate to go and see it. The fabric appears to be a medium weight cotton. Its previous owner framed it; the fabric was wrapped around cardboard and put in a simple (light color) wood frame. It is protected by acrylic (which is much lighter than glass, but was susceptible to the scratches / rubs / marks it shows). There is a metal zigzag hook on the back for hanging. On the back, around the edge you can see the fabric --- and the beautiful colors (without the interference of the glare and reflections in the photos of the front). The frame is approximately 25 ¼” x 19 ¼” x 5/8” (deep). On the front, the width of the frame is ¾”. We presume this original batik was done in Africa, but we are not certain. We have owned a number of unique African batiks over the years, and this is the most visually powerful original batik we have ever had. This will certainly be a centerpiece of a collection featuring lions, African scenes, African safaris, exotic animals, Mount Kilimanjaro, mountain scenes, silhouettes, etc. ……………… All items we sell are from a pet free and smoke free environment – unless prior owner history is noted above.
