Description: Maxfield Parrish’s “Spring” - Original Matted and Period-Framed Color Illustration (facing page 312) from F. T. Palgrave’s 1911 First Edition of ‘The Golden Treasury Of Songs And Lyrics’. The image measures 7”x 5”; Outermost frame dimensions are 9 3/4”x 7 5/8”. Parrish signature discernible bottom left corner (photo #8). ‘Spring’ was originally painted for, and appeared as the color cover of the May 6, 1905 issue of Collier’s Magazine, issued as a print (quite rare, I might add) the same year, and finally as this illustration in the 1911 Palgrave publication (and several subsequent editions) to illustrate the poem ‘Invitation’ by Percy B. Shelley (poem page, photos 16 & 17) ‘Will’ be included. Quite a nice cost/size alternative to the print (Ref. Flacks, 4th. Ed., page 55, last photo #21). It is backed with acid-free cotton rag board, new hardware, dustcover and bump-ons November, 2024 and ready to hang. Note: The first 11 photos are taken without glass to avoid reflection/glare issues; photos 13 (slight angle), 14 & 15 after completion of project. Note: Photos 19 & 20, the book itself, and title page are shown for provenance only and ‘Not’ included; Again, The poem and tissue lining, shown in photos 16, 17 & 18, ‘Will’ be included.
