Description: Regular service from the Dutch East Indies by KLM trough Malaya to Europe began in 1931. The present cover cancelled 12-29-1932 is an early example of a flight from Batavia, Malaya, Calcutta, Cairo and Rome to Amsterdam. From Amsterdam it took a steamship across to New York as there was no transatlantic airmail at the time. Sixty-five Guilder cents paid the correct rate, a combined rate 15 cents surface and 50 cents air fee. A Guilder was worth approximately 40 US dollar cents in 1932.
