Nikon AF-S DX 18-55mm f/1:3.5-5.6G VR II Zoom Lens NO AF or VR

Description: Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-55mm f/1:3.5-5.6G VR II zoom lens in excellent cosmetic and mechanical condition with clean blemish-free optics. However, neither AF or VR WORKS. Based on tests of the AF drive signals picked from the lens via an external sense coil, the piezo focus motor is likely gummed up or damaged. The signal appearance and amplitude are similar to those of a good lens. Perhaps someone attempted to lubricate it, which is a total NO-NO. Vibration reduction also does not work. It seems to just hunt around when activated but never stabilizes. The switch on the lens does disable it properly though. This lens originally had a torn flex cable which was replaced. Most of the time, that is just an isolated failure but in this case it was just masking these other problems. Or perhaps the repair caused the VR problem due to an internal cable not being reseated properly. The AF issue is not likely to be related. Consider it a challenge! Or use its organs to repair a lens that was run over by a bread truck. The photos are typical. If actual photos will make the sale, I will be happy to take some. Includes front and rear caps. It looks like a really nice lens with just a few minor problems. ;( ;-) In fact, the appearance is less worn than in the photos and it does take decent photos. But neither AF or VR works. Got it?! I was going to say that used dirt is sold separately, but this is still more valuable than most used dirt so there is no need to go there. ;-) Thanks for looking, --- sam
