Description: Original 1893 antique lithographed map of Washington, D.C., printed more than 130 years ago. The map has excellent historical detail, and it labels streets, railroads, canals, parks, hospitals, cemeteries, and natural features in our nation's capital. Details include the Washington & Alexandria Railroad bridge over the Potomac River, at Alexander's Island, City Asylum, President's House (not yet called the White House), the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal, Wormley's Hotel, Marine Barracks, Georgetown, Rosylyn Ferry, Rock Creek, the Washington & Alexandria Canal, the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad, Gessboro Point, Uniontown, Bladensburg Road, LeDroit Park, James Creek, and Pennsylvania Avenue. Other fascinating details include the depiction of the Mall, which was still evolving when this map was drawn, and Long Bridge, spanning the Potomac, was still under construction. An inset at the lower left shows the District of Columbia. A text key at the upper right identifies prominent buildings, hotels, churches, and theaters. The image area measures 22.7 x 29 cm [9" x 11½"], and the map was published by George Franklin Cram, Chicago, 1893. Condition: It is in excellent condition, bright and clean, with wide margins and no marks, rips, or tears. Please see the scans and feel free to ask any questions. It is an original, authentic antique map, not a reproduction or modern reprint. It is fully guaranteed to be genuine and would make a very handsome display in your den or office. It would also make a perfect gift, and we'll include our helpful framing tips for your reference, along with a photocopy of the dated title page from the book in which it was published.
