Description: This is an original painting by artist David Mattingly (me). When I do a new book cover, I always submit sketches, somewhere between one and six, to the art director, so they can see what I have in mind for the final cover. They will now choose one sketch for me to take to the final art, or ask for another sketch if they didn’t see anything they liked. This is a cover sketch I made for "The Wizard of Santa Fe" by the great Simon Hawke. This is a piece of original art, one of a kind, and when it is sold there is no other. The sketch is a mixture of gouache paint, a finely ground tempera paint, colored pencil, and ink that I used for most of my sketches. The sketch measures around 7 inches by 4,25 inches, the same size as the printed paperback book cover. It is on a piece of illustration board measuring around 10 inches by 7.5 inches. It is matted but not framed, and placed in a protective see through sleeve, with a backing board. You can see more of my work at www dot davidmattingly dot com.
