He is considered the founder of modern Czech historiography, he is nicknamed the Father of the Nation.After the spread of news about the revolution in France in February 1848, Frantisek Palacky was of the opinion that the Czech national movement should continue to stick to legal means, therefore he was very reserved towards the activities of the St. Wenceslas Committee, and at the beginning of April he preferred to get involved in the activities of the provisional gubernatorial commission, which appointed the head of the regional administration, Count Rudolf Stadion, as a counterweight to the St. Wenceslas Committee. At the same time, Palacký tried, quite unsuccessfully, to moderate the growing tension between Czechs and Germans and to convince the Czech estates to adopt liberal constitutionalism as their principles.In the elections to the Constituent Parliament, Frantisek Palacky was elected for the electoral district Prague II and took a leading role among the Czech deputies from Bohemia and Moravia. As a member of the constitutional subcommission, he drafted the Austrian constitution already on August 5, 1848, which contained the principles of Austro-Slavism and tried to find a balance between centralism and federalism.Frantisek Palacky died on May 26, 1876. His funeral became a national ordeal attended by tens of thousands of mourners. After the family said goodbye to the deceased, his embalmed body was displayed in the meeting hall of the Old Town Hall, and on May 31, it was transferred to the former cemetery near the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Lobkovice, where it was buried (Wiki).
