Description: Original WW1 German Mauser 7.92x57 Round Trench Art Letter Opener Genuine period trench art letter opener which has been made from a German Mauser 7.92 round by a soldier who served during the First World War. Trench art are objects usually made from scrap materials, debris or by-products of warfare. Although items made by soldiers are called trench art, they were almost never made in the trenches. Items like this required skill, tools and machinery and were manufactured in workshops behind the lines. The letter opener is in good original condition with a brass opener and markings to the base of the round: 2 15 (February 1915) and DM (Deutsche Metallpatronenfabrik, Karlsruhe).
