Description: Felicity was the first new character doll introduced by the Pleasant Company since the original three dolls’ debut in 1986. Released in 1991, Felicity was the first doll without bangs and more significantly the doll that inspired the company wide change to a tan cloth body. Previously, dolls had been produced with white cloth bodies, likely as a cost saving measure. Because colonial fashion features lower necklines than pioneer, Victorian or wartime dresses, Felicity’s body needed to match her vinyl to look more realistic. She is loosely based on a daughter of the Powell family, residents of Williamsburg during the colonial period. Felicity was the first doll added to the American Girl collection in 1991. Her riding habit and hat, work gown, dressing table, shoes and garters set and hair ribbons were first offered in the 1993 Holiday catalog. The hooded Crimson Cape is tagged Pleasant Company 1992. Felicity is the first doll to be released with a tan cloth body. Original Pleasant Company Felicity dolls have coppery red hair and decal green eyes with soft red eyelashes as shown in the pics. Lashes changed to black color when Pleasant Company purchased by Mattel. You can also see the white wig tape used on the original issue only.
