Description: Antique white dinner or luncheon plate from the Meissen Royal Porcelain Factory with a family crest or coat of arms painted on the flange. This plate has the blue crossed swords mark which dates it to the mid- to late- 19th century; an incised "83" which I believe refers to the blank number (I have seen this same plate shape/ size before with this number); and a tiny handwritten red "63" that I have to believe refers to the particular decoration on it. I tried very hard to research the crest but had no luck, so I'm guessing this was part of the personal dining service of a noble European family somewhere. The crest features a black lion rampant on one side and black and gold stripes on the other side, with black and gray scrollwork around it. The trim is black and gold and the scalloped shape is common with Meissen dining services. It measures about 8 1/2" in diameter and is in excellent condition with no damage to the porcelain or visible wear to the decoration; it doesn't even have utensil marks so it was probably never used but only displayed. This is beautiful plate to add to a Meissen or European porcelain collection. Please feel free to ask any questions!
