Description: Particularly Rare, Long WWI Battlefield Souvenir: Single Piece of EXPLODED Artillery Shell Shrapnel Made into a Souvenir Trench Art Letter OpenerDESCRIPTION: Scans show it all.....long single piece of actual WWI exploded artillery shell shrapnel that was picked up on a French battlefield during WWI and made into a great looking souvenir letter opener to sell to army troops. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE ROUGH SHRAPNEL WAS MACHINED INTO THE STEEL BLADE, SO THAT THE WHOLE OPENER WAS MADE FROM THE SAME PIECE OF RAW "BATTLEFIELD PICK UP" SHRAPNEL, INCLUDING HANDLE (STILL ROUGH AS FOUND) AND SMOOTHED/MACHINED BLADE. Shrapnel types like this, especially the larger ones, are much rarer to find than the copper driving band types often seen. This has been in my collection for many years. Measures about 8" long overall. Excellent condition overall with nice aged patina. It has a great look to it with the rough, exploded shrapnel portion, and is a great battlefield found TRENCH ART BATTLEFIELD SOUVENIR piece.Blade has decorative design worked into it.A great piece for display, for use, or as an important part of any WWI collection. PLEASE SEE ATTACHED PHOTOS!!!SHIPPING TERMS: Buyer pays $12.50 postage in the US for postage and insurance.
