Description: On offer is a wonderful and rare Ladies Rolex Precision Swiss reference 5004 Manual wind circa ‘1953’ stainless steel watch from horology’s most famous name. Serial numbered 897*** dating the watch to ‘1953’ on the Rolex date register. The light silvered dial has wonderful creamy patina and features ‘Explorer’ style indexes and signed ‘Rolex Oyster Precision Swiss’. Powered by the Rolex signed 17 jewelled Superbalance movement which has been recently serviced by a Rolex specialist watchmaker with no issues to report, keeping accurate time and in superb running order. Ready to enjoy! This highlights one of the brand's many strengths — aesthetic and technical innovation within a framework — as demonstrated best by the current Submariner, GMT Master, and Daytona. Modern Day Dates and Datejusts are a bit of a different story, with their continually strict adherence to the designs that came before them. A practical, timepiece to use for evening wear, on a regular basis, as you so wish. Has a unique Rolex signed dial, housed in a steel oyster case retaining the original Rolex signed crown. Fitted good quality new leather strap band. The Original Dial: The dial is signed Rolex below ‘12’ and signed ‘Precision’ above ‘6’’ with Swiss at the very bottom. This is a unique dial with patina. Carries raised arrow indexes with unique Arabic numerals to the quarters (Explorer style). Steel hour and minute ‘Dauphine’ style hands set the dial beautifully. Outer chapter ring with applied minute indices . Dial has marks commensurate with age and wear. Please see photos. Original Crystal: Good condition Original Movement: Rolex went to considerable trouble and expense to ensure its small Calibre movements performed equally as well as its larger gents movements, and they succeeded! These are indeed high precision movements and the example here is running very well, having been calibrated to run consistently accurate. This is truly outstanding for any mechanical watch and it is no exaggeration – The high grade 17 jewel hand-wound Superbalance movement is in incredibly clean and sparkling condition and has been serviced by a Rolex specialist watchmaker with no issues to report, keeping accurate time. This particular movement is in beautiful condition and with similar care and regular servicing, say every 3 to 4 years, one can expect this watch to continue to run very happily for many more decades to come! Original Case: The Oyster case is of a very solid two-piece design with a wonderful plain bezel to improve water and dust resistance. Steel case measures 24mm excluding the crown. Has surface has surface scratches all over associated with base polished metals commensurate with age and wear. Case Back Cover Outer: The screw case-back indicating it is a nice tight fit and is of full thickness - Has surface scratches associated with base polished metals commensurate with age and wear. Case Back Cover Inner: Inside the case-back is signed Geneva Swiss Rolex Patented 5004. Factory scored. Period service markers present. In Good condition. Original Crown/Winder: The crown is signed Rolex Oyster with the Brevet cross in relief. The crown is a little fidgety commensurate with age and wear In good functioning order. Additional Information; While the gents Rolex Precision was Rolex’s best selling watch throughout the 1950s and ’60s, many will be surprised to learn there was also a ladies Precision, sold at the same time. These made up around 10% of all the Rolex Precisions produced. Half of these were sold on leather straps and half on integral Rolex gold bracelets. These were expensive watches at the time, because it was much more difficult to produce the much smaller diameter ladies Rolex movements, to the same required levels of accuracy and reliability as the movements in the larger gents watches. It is not quite so well known that Rolex was actually founded in the UK in London 1905 and it was not until 1919 that the company transferred its base of operations to Geneva, Switzerland. It is also a misconception that the world of luxury watches is a gentlemans one, as the first recorded wristwatch was actually designed for a lady. In June 1810, Abraham-Louis Breguet made a watch for Caroline Murat, Queen of Naples.
