Since cash was enclosed, Philadelphia had begun to develop a system to denote incoming letters known to contain valuables. The Philadelphia Postmaster, knowing it contained valuables, applied a manuscript "No. 16" and manuscript "Registered" and then a small "R" in red, to this letter addressed to "Fishmouth & Bros, No 105 North 3rd Street, Phila." The Bloomsburg Postmaster had already applied (when the letter was mailed) his red datestamp of November 25th and cancelled the #11 with two strikes of a black grid.
