One distinct feature of all watches made for this branch of the German forces was the K.M initials (Kriegsmarine) on the dial, along with light-colored dials (usually cream or white), as opposed to the black dials used by other German military branches. This watch is closely modeled after one of Selza's original WW2 designs. While the original watches are now rare and command high prices, this modern version is outwardly almost indistinguishable from the factory's WW2 models. It retains the acrylic crystal used on the originals but upgrades the movement from the original 15 Jewel hand-wound mechanical to a 21 Jewel self-winding automatic movement, which can also be hand-wound if necessary. This combination allows the watch to maintain its authentic vintage appearance while adding discreet updates for day-to-day reliability. During WW2, Selza, along with Siegerin, was one of the leading manufacturers for the Kriegsmarine and also produced watches for the Luftwaffe, Fallschirmjäger (paratroopers), and Flak corps (anti-aircraft units). German military watches of this period were relatively similar in design, just as British military watches were, but while British collectors focus on the Dirty Dozen, collecting German equivalents can be more challenging due to the sheer number of suppliers—over 100 manufacturers supplied German military watches, compared to just 12 used by the British Ministry of War.
