Description: "Silence on Monte Sole" by Jack Olsen. 1968 G.P. Putnam's Sons. Apparent first edition, no edition or printing detail provided on copyright page. 356 pages. Hardcover with dust jacket. Laid in one page letter from author. The author has signed and inscribed this book and provided a signed letter, which was laid in. The inscription reads: "For Pastor Swanson with much respect + admiration -- Jack Olsen". The accompanying letter, signed "Jack" and including Olsen's home address, is also addressed to Pastor Swanson. Olsen goes on to talk about his medical issues, then to praise Pastor Swanson's sermon and talk about his own history with the Lutheran church. He also talks about Rollinsville, Colorado, likely where Swanson lived at the time. He ends the letter with: "I enclose my best work, written almost 30 years ago. I hope you find it interesting." From this letter, it appears this was one of the author's personal copies of what he thought was his best book. Makes you wonder what the sermon was about... The book was purchased at Pastor Swanson's estate sale in the Chicago suburbs. The book tells the story of the massacre of an entire Italian town by German SS soldiers in World War !!. Photos are of the actual book on offer. See the photos for additional insight into content and condition of this WW2 war crimes history book.
