Description: This is a Very Rare spoon/ teaspoon! It is made of sterling silver and is signed ”sterling” right where the spoon meets the handle on the backside. The named ship was built in 1913 and it did have a couple of different names. It was christened the DeWitt Clinton in 1921. This name was of a gentleman, New York governor and senator named DeWitt Clinton who is considered the father of the ErieCanal! The DeWitt Clinton steamship was part of the Hudson River day line ships, and it traveled up and down the Hudson River bringing thousands of passengers to their New York destinations and other locations. This ship also served as a transport vessel to Europe during World War II, and as a refugee and immigrant ship traveling in the Mediterranean!! Unfortunately, even with the gloried history of this ship, it was scrapped in 1953. The spoon, which is a rare souvenir of this ship, was probably from its early years in the 1920s when it was a very luxurious steamship traveling up and down the Hudson River. please google the DeWitt Clinton steamship for much more descriptive history! I don’t want to keep rambling on and on in my listing. The spoon is in very good condition. There are some tarnished areas on it and it was polished lightly with a silver polish cloth. Please view my pictures and please ask any questions prior to buying the spoon! Thank you. P.S. I googled the spoon, and there are none online. You can find some early postcards of the steamship, but the spoon might possibly be the only one in existence!
