Description: The TED 5000 is a home energy monitor that monitors your entire home's electricity consumption. Unlike energy monitors that mount on your home's electrical meter, the TED 5000 uses current transformers (CT) and a measuring unit (MTU) to mount inside of your home's electric panel. Installing the TED 5000 is straight forward but an electrician should be used for those uncomfortable working with electricity. The communication between the TED energy monitor and the Gateway, which receives the energy monitor signal, is achieved over your home's existing electrical wiring.There are 2 difference versions of the TED 5000 you can buy: TED 5000-C and TED 5000-G. From the TED 5000 website: "Model 5000-C comes with all the components necessary to monitor energy usage, including a sleek wireless display. The TED 5000-C package includes one Measuring unit (MTU/CT set), one Gateway embedded with software, and one sleek optional wireless display."The difference in the TED 5000-C and other TED 5000 models is that the "C" comes with a wireless display to show your home's electricity consumption in real time. IIf you don't want to use the display you can still see your real time consumption and history and much more data from the integrated web browser. You can buy a lower cost version of the TED 5000 without the display, and that is the TED 5000-G.The other option you have is how many MTU/CT units you would like. This is designated by the last digit in the number. TED 5000 for 1 MTU/CT, 5002 for 2 MTU/CT, 5003 for 3 MTU/CT and 5004 for 4 MTU/CT. You would need more MTU/CT units if you have another electrical panel you want to monitor or if you have a solar panel system or wind turbine energy production system you would like to monitor along with your home's electricity consumption.On the TED 5000 store, they sell plug in filter and/or in-line filters to limit electronic noise on your home's electrical wiring that may affect the TED 5000's signal from your electrical panel.
