Vintage Great Late 40s KNOX Brown Beaver Twenty Fedora 7-3/8

Description: This Excellent Late 1940s True Vintage KNOX Beaver Twenty - Brown Fedora, size 7-3/8. It states this is a Long Oval but that seems to matter much less in the older True Vintage hats. Because it is still in New condition and the Leather Sweatband is Perfect it will easily conform to any head shape. We added the interior length and width of the head hole below. If this was worn more than a handful of times we’d be very surprised! You can see the hat appears New. Just like it was bought at the store. There is NO wear on the leather sweatband and if you look at the reed ( the actual part that attaches to the hat and gets all the wear when it’s been worn and placed on a surface) it’s pristine. This came out of my Son’s collection. If you look closely at the Liner Design inside the fedora you can see that Famous “Tom’N’Jerry” design. It is NOT just printed on this liner but parts are actually Embroidered! You can actually feel it through the “Onion Skin”, thin overlay. You rarely see the liner embroidered! There is that Older Vintage Stetson late 1940s “Last Drop” liner that also we have seen it Embroidered also. We can steam that shape into the hat if you’d like, just write and ask. This style fedora can be seen in all those 1940s and 1950s Crime Gangster Movies! Favorites of James Cagney, Humphrey Bogart and so many others.So as my Grandson wanted to add to a newer movie: The Blues Brothers and the fedora hat that John Belushi wore in that movie. The color is Brown and The picture of the whole underside reflects the actual dark brown color. Stetson calls this “Chocolate Brown. This is a Beaver Twenty. We took out Dad’s personal collection of 1950s Stetson Beaver Hats: 3X, Ten, Fifteen, Twenty and TwentyFive. This matches up with the Beaver Twenty. The beaver is very very soft and thick.Actually the best way to determine the Beaver Quality is while steam shaping any hat. The BUTTERY softness while steaming the hat and how soft and easily shaping is really does tell how Great a Beaver quality a hat material is. While steaming this fedora it was so easy to feel the Buttery softness the Beaver feels! Once shaped this will remain in this shape until someone steams it again. Dating was easy! Between 1948-1951. The KNOX logo design on the liner and with the “Onion Skin” type liner cover liner as opposed to the thin plastic overlay started in the 1950s. You can see the liner is still very clean, well barely starting to get that yellowish aged patina. So a bit of history on the origins of “TOM’N’JERRY. In 1862 a warm alcoholic drink was inverted called the “Tom’N’Jerry” but this was named after a couple of characters in a book. Read below. If you look at the actual scene in the liner you can see they are drinking in a tavern.“ This hot Tom and Jerry is an old time drink that is once used by one and all in this country to celebrate Christmas with, and in fact it is once so popular that many people think Christmas is invented only to furnish an excuse for hot Tom and Jerry, although of course this is by no means true.The Tom and Jerry drink was popularised in America by “Professor” Jeremy Thomas, who published a recipe in his Bar-Tenders Guide of 1862. He was well known for his flashy style, juggling bottles and extravagantly shaking cocktails. He worked as a bartender in several American cities. He claimed to have invented the Tom and Jerry, naming it after two white mice he kept as pets.”Dad and Grandson steamed shaped a bit of a tune up, currently has been shaped into a pinched crown fedora because that Beaver Twenty is so easy to work with! This is a VINTAGE Beaver Twenty and It’s nothing like what you would compare to any newer hat! It’s just very soft and thick beaver, soft and thick and so easy to shape! We NEVER hide anything on the great hats we list for dad. Though dad and I are both very old we always have my grandson do the final inspections with his young healthy eyes. NOTE: this was found along with a second KNOX fedora in that KNOX Oval hat box has no hat holding insert set so Dad has replaced it with that late 1950s-1960s 8 sided hat box. It’s still in great condition with its hat holding insert set. That hat box is large and does cost a few more dollars to ship.If you do NOT want the hat box shipping is only $19.20 but you MUST write to us and let us know. So many folks just don’t want to spend the extra money for shipping and will wear the hat to often so a hat box will not be needed. We will refund back the difference after the purchase. But again you MUST write to us and let us know at the time of the sale and we will refund back the difference. Dad tries to keep all his hats inside a hat box. This eliminates the MOTH issue! They don’t get to the hat when stored away. It’s just a great idea when not wearing the hat to keep it away from MOTHS! Even simply storing it a plastic bag will do.
