Description: ***********Although the Valjoux 7733 manual wind movement runs strong and keeps accurate time with all chronograph functions working perfectly as they should given its unknown service history a complete overhaul is long overdue and recommended.*********** This seldom seen vintage 1970's Paul Peugeot two-register chronograph has a silver satin "T SWISS MADE T" signed dial that is in lovely but not perfect condition it shows light wear. The original tritium on the dial and hands, which remains fully intact and emits a quick-burst glow after being exposed to bright light, has aged gracefully to a warm buttermilk hue. The beautifully cut all stainless steel twisted lugs case shows honest wear with minor signs of oxidation. The outer edge of the case back is stamped "ALL STAINLESS STEEL WATERRESISTANT INCABLOC ANTIMAGNETIC SWISS MADE." The inside of the case back is stamped "J.P. PINGOUIN CO" followed by "SWISS MADE." The crystal presents in person as nearly blemish free. The 17 jewels unadjusted Swiss "J.P. PINGOUIN Co" stamped Valjoux 7733 manual wind movement keeps accurate time with all chronograph functions working as they should. The first press to the top pusher starts the sweep seconds hand and minute (right subdial) register. Pressing in on the top pusher again stops the sweep seconds hand and minute register. The sweep seconds hand and minute register reset back to precisely 0 by pressing in on the bottom pusher. This can be most clearly seen in pictures 4 and 5, respectively. Both pushers have a pleasant catch and release feel with no signs of gumminess. As shown in picture 17 the bottom pusher has a small chip on its underside. After recently winding the sharply threaded, non-screwdown crown 51 full revolutions (exceptional for a manual wind) the movement had an approximate 42 hour power reserve period. The crown winds buttery smooth. Given the movement's unknown service history a complete overhaul is long overdue and recommended. This watch measures approximately 37 mm excluding the crown, approximately 40 mm including the crown and approximately 20 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the fixed bezel, is approximately 8.5 mm. Including the crystal thickness measures approximately 11.5 mm. The lug to lug distance measures approximately 48 mm. This watch comes on a near NOS 'desert' NATO strap with polished hardware that complements the watch nicely. The spring bars are a bit flimsy and should be replaced with higher quality, thicker ones. The inner/outer Paul Peugeot boxes show wear as does the tissue. The inner box opens and closes without issue. The booklet with unfilled guarantee (long since expired) is in remarkable condition. A complete overhaul is recommended. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time.
