Description: The work that went into this vintage jewelry box is absolutely stunning. Each piece is painstakingly carved and fit with astounding precision. Korean lacquerware of this caliber was a staple of craftsman for many years but sadly the craft started to wane in the 1970s. There are few Craftsmen left and few true masterpieces as well. This piece appears to have been made at or maybe presented to Young Dong Technical College in November of 1992 in Korea so there is hope that the tradition will continue. It is signed with this on its back. The colors that shine with the Mother of Pearl are lovely. This is in fantastic vintage condition with truly only the slightest of wear. You may find a light scratch here or there but no large loss of Mother of Pearl that I see. I have pictured every angle for you and please zoom in to see details. While the crane panels on the double doors are stunning, to me the true star is background (or what I would call a diaper if this was cloisonne). It is tiny and meticulous. It appears to have been made in strips and then cut to fit the piece exactly. I truly cannot imagine the hours put into this! The interior is velvet lined and it does have a beveled mirror on the right hand rear. At the top, there is a rotating spinner for necklaces as well as a place for rings, a watch or bracelet and other jewelry. Each of its four drawers are lined as well.
