Description: Rare Wedgwood Queensware Aesthetic Movement Dresser Jar ~ Pot Lid & Base Etruria Staffordshire England 1885 This is a very scarce Aesthetic Movement lidded dresser jar or pomade pot, circa 1880, made to sit on a Victorian lady’s dressing table. The covered pot once contained cold cream or perfume sachet, one of the early varieties of cosmetic aids made for women in Britain. The Wedgwood Queensware covered pot stands 1-1/4 inches tall and measures 3 -3/4 inches across the middle. Transfer printed in dark sepia brown embellished with gilt on the edges, it is decorated with a busy asymmetrical motif of dogwood flowers with a band orchids and primrose flowers wrapped around the middle. The pot lid and base was made by Wedgwood in Etruria in the Staffordshire region of England. It is marked and dates to the year 1885. It is also signed with a hand painted decorators mark 9630. The pot is well potted with a precision cut foot and crisp, finely applied transfer. It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, stains or repairs. There is a superficial Y shaped interior line visible on the inside of the lid which does not penetrate the piece and is not visible from the outside. It is in remarkable condition especially considering it has been in use for more than 125 years. The piece will make a great addition to any collection of Aesthetic Movement transfer printed advertising wares or quack medicines, and would make a fabulous gift for the Victorian lady in your life. Sold as is, as shown. Please contact us with any questions or if you would like to see additional photos. Thanks for your interest.
