It comes with original instructions and 3 new LR41 button-cell batteries. It is recommended for ages 4 and up. The scope can be used in 3 ways: as a telescope, as a magnifying glass, and as a scope for examining items held in the tweezers. To use as a telescope uplift both the large and small lens. Hold the path finder tool in front of your eyes as in the 7th picture. Line up the 2 lenses and look through the smaller lens. To use as a magnifying glass, uplift the large lens only, and hold it above the item you want to see in more detail. With the large lens out, swing out the tweezers. Look through the lens at the item held in the tweezers. To use the compass - Hold the path finder tool level and still in the palm of your hand with the compass facing upwards.
