Description: This listing is for a sand-tray therapy set designed to be easily transported. I created this set of stacking boxes and over 300 figures for psychotherapists who do not have a place (or who do not want) a standard-sized sand tray. While relatively small physically, these sand tray sets allow therapists and clients to work within the conceptually unlimited world of sand tray therapy. One wooden box serves as a portable sand tray while the other is a carrying case for the figures. Made of stained pine, both boxes have been reinforced and varnished so that they are sturdy while remaining lightweight and easy to carry and store. They are water resistant and can be used with moist sand. Following sand tray therapy tradition, the bottom of the sand tray box is painted blue to represent both sea and sky. The figure carrying case is painted sunlight yellow on the inside. The outer dimensions of the box are 12.5" by 9.75" by 3.25"and the inner dimensions are 11.75" x 9" x 3". The figures range from 7/8 inch to 3-3/4 inches. I selected this combination of figures because of how they touch on the archetypal, on images and ideas that are meaningful to humans across different cultures and life experiences. The use of these figures within the physically small but conceptually limitless world of sand trays can give birth to and sustain empowering cultural and personal stories. When possible, I have worked to reduce the environmental impact of my sand tray figure sets as much as possible by recycling and upcycling materials. The figures in this set reference six broad themes: human relationships; passions and emotions; animals; travel, movement, and imprisonment; luck, chance, and fate; travel, freedom, and imprisonment; the natural and constructed worlds; and the domestic sphere. 1. Human figures and families: A Playmobil family of 2 adults and 2 children; a peg person family of 2 adults and 2 children; 2 small baby dolls and a baby bottle; 2 Homie figures; 4 men and 4 women performing daily activities; 1 ballerina and 1 athlete; 2 quinceanera/bridesmaid figures; 3 first responders/heroes; 2 knights; 2 soldiers (1 pink, 1 in traditional military colors); 2 pirates; 1 zombie; 1 frightening mythical creature; 1 lucador, 4 Pokeman creatures; 1 skeletal warrior; 1 alien; 1 gingerbread person; 1 jack o'lantern; 1 snow(wo)man or Santa; 1 clown; 1 kind mythical figure; 1 religious figure; and 1 globe. 2. This collection of figures focuses on items associated with travel, movement, freedom, imprisonment, home, escape, and exile. The specific objects in this sand tray set are the following: 1 car; 1 train engine; 1 set of train tracks; 1 plane; 1 dump truck or other construction vehicle; 1 bicycle or 1 skateboard; 2 traffic signs; and 1 ship. 5.
